Susan Petty requires no introduction to Ventura County natives as her work has nourished the community for decades much like the fruits grown on her family’s ranch in Saticoy. The lifelong artist “paint[s] where [she] lives, both literally and figuratively,” finding her inspiration primarily from the California landscape and her garden. Petty is skilled across mediums, acquiring technical expertise from her schooling and years of mastery, but was originally most recognized for her exquisite watercolors. More recently she has returned to oils and her first love, drawing. Regardless of the method used, she prioritizes composition and believes the content is meaningless if it is not organized in a significant way.
