It’s taken 2 ½ decades to amass a large enough archive of found photos and other elements in order to begin making mixed-media portraits that combine the two. The piece in this show expands upon my ongoing work that battles with identity. The subject of this portrait is never really revealed. The mystery of her accurate and “real” identities have been covered over with “Responsibly Sourced bird feathers”. I feel that this mystery is a part of the work while self-reflection is also at play. A museum curator of works on paper once said (and I am paraphrasing a bit) that the currency we pay as snapshot collectors is, that of time, not money. It’s true.
