Artist’s Statement
In my continual obsession with the nature of water, I found that one of the most fascinating and dramatic aspects has been a study of water, moving under the influence of a very powerful storm. These drawings of the Deluge are reflections on how very humbling and as we know how powerful those storms are. When the Dragon, the Lord of the sky, makes his presence known, it’s catastrophic. Definitely time to duck and cover. Leonardo daVinci, in his last years, focused on, amongst other things, the power of great storms and cyclones. They’re one of the main inspirations for continuing this body of work over several years beginning in 1975.
The nature of water has unceasingly captivated me and has almost continually informed my work over the past four decades. One of the most fascinating and dramatic aspects of this has been the study of water moving under the influence of a very powerful storm. These drawings of the Deluge are reflections on how very humbling and how very powerful these storms are. When the Dragon, the Lord of the sky, makes his presence known, it’s catastrophic. Definitely time to duck and cover. In his last years, Leonardo DaVinci, focused on, among other things, drawing the power of great storms and cyclones. These have inspired my current exploration of the tumultuous water patterns of storms at sea.
We are all becoming increasingly aware that the Lords of the sky, the air and the earth are not pleased.
