Join us for Plein Air Ventura, a monthly outdoor painting workshop led by artist Jem Morris. Each session, students will meet at a different scenic location in Ventura, providing a fresh and inspiring setting to refine their plein air painting skills. The location will be disclosed upon registration.

Through expert guidance, Jem will share tips and techniques for capturing light, atmosphere, and composition in the ever-changing outdoor environment. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter, this workshop offers the opportunity to enhance your artistic practice, develop confidence in painting en plein air, and connect with fellow artists in a supportive and engaging setting.

Portable Easel – Lightweight and sturdy (French easel, pochade box, or tripod setup)
Canvas or Panels – Prepped canvas panels, linen panels, or oil-primed paper
Palette – Wooden, glass, or disposable palette for mixing colors
Palette Knife – For mixing and applying paint
Paints – Essential oil colors for plein air (suggested palette below)
Brushes – A variety of flats, rounds, and filberts (synthetic or natural)
Mediums – Liquin, Gamsol, or linseed oil for paint consistency
Brush Cleaner – Gamsol or a non-toxic alternative in a sealed container
Rags or Paper Towels – For cleaning brushes and wiping off excess paint  

Suggested Oil Color Palette for Plein Air

 Warm & Cool Primaries:

  • Titanium White

  • Cadmium Yellow Light

  • Yellow Ochre

  • Cadmium Red

  • Quinacridone Magenta/Alizarin Crimson

  • Ultramarine Blue

  • Cerulean Blue

  • Burnt Sienna

  • Burnt Umber

  • Ivory Black
