DHIREN DASU, BIO
Dhiren Dasu, under his moniker Shapeshifter7, has been making art since 1996. He works in photography, collage, film, animation, drawing, poetry, and music. He makes artworks that echo and recompose the architectural spaces he photographs, turning them into immersive spaces while exploring the nexus of photography, collage, symbols, and perception.

In collaboration with artist Jan Lange, Dasu animated and creative directed a series of short films for Martin Lawrence Galleries. Animations were of works by Takashi Murakami, Salvador Dali, Mark Kostabi, Kerry Hallam, Robert Deyber, Philippe Bertho, and Douglas Hoffman.
He has worked with surrealist feminist artist Penny Slinger since 2000 on animation, sculpture, film, installations and music.

The scenography for the 2019 Autumn/Winter haute couture show for fashion house Christian Dior in Paris. Dasu worked with Slinger on creating the photographic collages, sculptures, prints, and other design elements.
He worked with award winning filmmaker Richard Kovitch on sound and filming for the documentary film: Penny Slinger: Out of the Shadows which was a jury selection at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Raindance Film Festival - London, with showings at the ICA - London and Tate Museum - St. Ives.
He was the director of animation for An Exorcism - The Works, a collage film directed by Penny Slinger that premiered as part of Blum & Poe Gallery’s Broadcast series.
He is a regular contributor to the XR panel for The Art Newspaper and reviews VR, AR and immersive digital fine arts.
His current project titled Simulacre is a synthesis of his photography practice, collage and character design. The work draws from his catalog of photos from his worldwide travels over the past decade. He is currently developing an immersive presentation of this body of work for virtual reality, 360 video, and dome theaters.
He lives and works in Los Angeles.
