Carlos Beltran Arechiga is a Mexican-American artist whose work navigates the delicate balance between figuration and abstraction. Born in Mexico City and currently residing in Whittier, CA, Arechiga’s artistic journey began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Universidad de Guadalajara, México. His extensive exhibition history includes numerous international venues, underscoring his global reach and influence.
Arechiga’s art is rooted in existential ambiguity, reflected in the fluctuating relationship between figuration and abstraction. His works express the tension between gestural markings and structured forms, creating a dynamic visual experience that challenges viewers' perceptions. The recurring themes and edifices in his paintings symbolize the conventional "American Dream," while his abstract, gestural markings disrupt and question these preconceived notions, exploring the concept of a "Promised Land."
In his creative process, Arechiga employs oil and acrylic on canvas and linen, skillfully merging different media to enhance the depth and texture of his pieces. His recent works, such as "California Stars Aquarius" (2022) and "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" (2022), exemplify his ability to blend traditional and contemporary techniques, offering a critique of societal structures and the accessibility of resources and opportunities across various communities and economies.
Selected Artworks:
California Stars Aquarius (2022) – Oil, acrylic on linen, 61x52 inches.
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize (2022) – Oil, acrylic on linen, 63x52 inches.
Dog Walker (2018) – Oil, acrylic on canvas, 20x16 inches.
Arechiga’s work has been featured in prominent international exhibitions, including the "QiPO24" international art fair in Mexico City and "Art Madrid" with 3 Punts Galeria in Madrid, Spain. His contributions to the art world extend beyond his creations, as he actively participates in curatorial projects and international art exchanges, fostering cultural dialogue and collaboration.
By examining both tangible and intangible structures that shape our world, Carlos Beltran Arechiga’s art invites viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and the societal constructs that influence them. His work serves as a powerful commentary on the complexities of modern life and the enduring quest for identity and belonging.
