Come experience the unique splendor of Haitian art in a specially curated exhibit featuring a mix of fascinating art styles: exquisite, one-of-a-kind Voodoo flags, painting, and sculpture. And learn more about Haiti which lies less than 700 miles from the US and the extraordinary orphanage in Jacmel that is helping children thrive in a country facing incredible on-going hardships.
LOVE TAKES ROOT is a non-profit founded by Rick and Barbara Wilkerson, dedicated to helping children in need. After the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Rick a physician was inspired to make a difference and help the orphans struggling amidst the chaos and danger of the capital city of Port-Au-Prince. Starting a grassroots, all volunteer organization to rebuild La Concorde orphanage in the coastal town of Jacmel. Today, 8 years later, the orphanage is thriving and the complex now includes a Haitian run primary and secondary school, a Haitian staffed Medical Clinic, and a computer lab. LTR recently started a band program that has brought the gift of music to the children's lives.
Barbara Wilkerson will be coming to Ventura for this event from the Midwest and will serve as a special guest speaker. She will tell us about the mission's journey and the harsh realities that Haiti still faces today. But the message remains one of hope. As LOVE TAKES ROOT has shown, it is possible for all of us to truly make a difference in someone's life.
